Overview
The story starts with our main character Kazuya. He has a girlfriend, Mami, who is beautiful. He is in love with her in the beginning episode of the Anime. Mami will make an appearance all throughout the Anime as well and she is an important reoccurring character.
The narrative of this series should be pretty obvious to you from the start but for anyone wondering the show is about a young man named Kazuya who starts off in the story with a beautiful girlfriend named Mami Nanami.
After being left heartbroken and lonely Kazuya is surfing through the internet on his phone when he comes across a Rental Girlfriend service. I’m not sure about other parts of the world, but in Russia and England, this isn’t a thing (as far as we know).
The idea of literally renting out a living person to have as your fake girlfriend is very far-fetched. But in Japan? Not at all! These loverly women provide their services to make any man feel loved and the series really amplifies this to a new level, exploring all the different ways that this can be a benefit and a problem to the service providers.
Main Characters
First, we have Kazuya, who’s supposed to be about 21 but looks like he’s 16. He has short scruffy brown hair and brown eyes. He wears a distinctive black shirt with the orange symbol on it. I always wondered if that symbol was supposed to represent something but never mind.
He’s a pretty likable MC but he’s quite pathetic, (until he needs to not be) boring and not really what I would be hoping for in a story like this, but there are some times where his real admirable side shines through.
Secondly, we have the beautifulChizuru, she’s a little younger than Kazuya I believe but obviously has more going for herself. Her beauty and charm are what attract most viewers to her initially.
However, there are also many characteristics which she posses which make her very admirable in the Anime, and a character I could certainly get behind if she was the MC.
Sub Characters
The sub-characters in Rent-A-Girlfriend are all good at what they’re supposed to do. I didn’t like the character of the older grandmother and thought they overused her. Also, Kazuya’s friend was just such a loser. I don’t understand how he could even associate with people like this in his life. His best friend obviously rubbed off on him. And that’s probably why he thought getting a Rental Girlfriend was a good idea in the first place. And all really just to impress his friend.
Mami is certainly not the kind of girl you’d really ever wanna be around. And especially not as your partner. So when she leaves him for another guy it comes as a surprise. In the series later on you’ll understand why she left him and why her character is so cold.
Ending of Rent-A-Girlfriend
Now the ending of Rent-A-Girlfriend wasn’t nearly as good as it could have been in my opinion. After all this back and forth with the main characters, we still get nothing. All these scenes involving activities that are made to put our characters in positions to make them closer together like the boat scene where both Chizuru and Kazuya almost drowned all kind of felt pointless.
The reason for this is that Kazuya just blurts out how he really feels about Chizuru then quickly tries to backtrack and play it off as a joke. What a waste. Anyway, it ends with Kazuya obviously still harbouring his deeply embedded feelings for Chizuru after nearly spilling the details all out to her and still none the wiser (so we think).
It’s a little kind of cliffhanger. We don’t know if Kazuya will eventually confess. Hopefully? I think that’s what the ending was implying. Will Chizuru ever find out how Kazuya really feels about him? And will Kazuya ever actually confess? If a new season is to come, we will certainly get to see if this will come true. Will Rent-A-Girlfriend Get A Season 2?
So of course we’re not here to guarantee the Second Season of Rent-A-Girlfriend, that’s just not what we do. Instead, we like to give you an answer based on our own research into the series. Below are a small number of reasons why we believe a Season 2 of Rent-A-Girlfriend is likely. So let’s dive into the reasons aRent-A-Girlfriend Season 2 is possible.
- First of all, the manga, written by Reiji Miyajima is still ongoing, and new chapters are being published even as recently as August 21 this year. So the manga is still ongoing and the story is not yet finalised.
- As of now, there have been around 50 chapters of the Manga adapted. In fact the Anime ends somewhere around chapter 50. As of now there are 162 chapters that have been currently published. This means there is more than double the source materal to be adapted. So theres no real reason a Rent-A-Girlfriend Season 2 isn’t possible as it’s easily adaptable.
- Rent-A-Girlfriend is a very popular Anime on Crunchyroll. The money a season 2 could make would be hard to ignore. For any production company that is. The Manga features in the popular Kodansha’s Weekly Shōnen Magazine. This is a magazine, featured on many streaming and media sites all around the world.
For the above-outlined reasons, we not only believe that Rent-A-Girlfriend season 2 is possible but very likely given the circumstances. It’s just really a matter of time.

It’s hard to tell as the Anime industry is an unpredictable one and sometimes popular shows never even see a second season whilst very unliked shows you never thought would even hear the sentence “season 2” get 1, 2, and even 3 additional seasons. As we mentioned before, not only the chances for a Rent-A-Girlfriend are very high, but the need.
I think many people want to see a happy ending toChizuru’s & Kazuya’s relationship.
