During this time Andre Le Notre starts to take an interest in her, and from this, a romance starts to brew. In this gripping and dramatic movie, it’s shown that Sabine is “not afraid to get her hands dirty”, getting through life in the royal court of Louis XIV proves very hard for her.
Inspired by true events, the movie features many different romantic and dramatised scenes, for lovers of this type of old-school drama to enjoy. Being set in the 1700s, the story is set around Class, as this was very important back then. With Sabine being of a different class to Andre, she must break barriers as she becomes romantically entangled with the court’s renowned landscape artist.
Normal People (1 Series, 12 Episodes)
If you’re into more younger and conventional series featuring younger couples and set in the 21st Century, then Normal People might be for you. This story follows two young lovers, as they experience first love for the first time. Normal People, which is an original novel written by Sally Rooney is about Marianne (played by Daisy Edgar-Jones) and Connell (played by Paul Mescal), their secret friendship, and their on-and-off-again relationship. They are two young people drawn to each other who drift apart at times, but always end up coming back to each other throughout their lives. Following their time at secondary school in County Sligo on Ireland’s Atlantic coast, and later as undergraduate students at Trinity College Dublin. The series focuses mainly on Connell’s and Marianne’s complex relationship. Among her peers at secondary school, Marianne is regarded as an oddball, but she denies caring about her social standing. The two are supposed to be regular in their outward look, but their relationship is intense and complicated. It contrasts with them as people, which makes the series very attractive to younger viewers, making it one of the top romance shows on BBC iPlayer.
My Summer of Love (1 Movie, 1hr 22 mins)
For our final iPlayer, we’re heading back in time to 2004 and following two women in this magnificent movie about love, gender roles, religion culture and much more. My Summer of Love is a romance movie which follows the story of a working-class tomboy called Mona (played by Natalie Press) who lives in the Yorkshire countryside. One day she meets an exotic, pampered woman called Tamsin (played by Emily Blunt). Over the summer season, the two young women discover they have much to teach one another, and much to explore together. Mona, behind a spiky exterior, hides an untapped intelligence and a yearning for something beyond the emptiness of her daily life; Tamsin is well-educated, spoiled and cynical.
Complete opposites, each is wary of the other’s differences when they first meet, but this coolness soon melts into mutual fascination, amusement and attraction. Adding volatility is Mona’s older brother Phil (played by Paddy Considine), who has renounced his criminal past for religious fervor – which he tries to impose upon his sister. Mona, however, is experiencing her own rapture. ‘We must never be parted’, Tamsin intones to Mona. It’s a very dramatic and sad love story, with a very unforgettable ending.
With that, it’s great that we ended on this movie because it gives off some warm vibes, and has a very nice feel to it. With some great characters and an interesting and gripping plot, hopefully, this movie will be for you and you’ll enjoy it.
