Even though Making a Murderer Season 2 is still fresh on Netflix, anticipation for a potential third season is growing. However, considering the pattern of previous seasons, there’s still reason for optimism.
Season 2 was announced in November 2017, two years after Season 1’s debut on December 18, 2015, with a subsequent year-long wait for its release.
The series, which captures the unfolding of real events, covered a decade of Avery and Dassey’s case, including their 2005 conviction for the murder of Teresa Halbach. The first season laid out the complexities of their legal situation, while Season 2 continued to explore the case’s unresolved aspects.
As Season 2 concluded, attorney Kathleen Zellner reiterated her commitment to proving Avery’s innocence. Zellner remains focused on challenging the integrity of Ken Kratz, the former district attorney involved in the case, emphasizing that Avery’s story is far from over.
In an interview with Cosmopolitan UK, filmmakers Moira Demos and Laura Ricciardi hinted at the possibility of continuing the series. Demos suggested:
“Maybe [there could be a third season]… I heard that documentaries come in tens.”
She further noted:
“It’s hard to imagine what a true end to a story with so many threads and so many people who have gone through so much, would look like. We certainly have deep connections to many people in this story.”
The series has also fueled significant public support, including a Change.org petition calling for Avery’s pardon, which has amassed over 500,000 signatures.
Given the production timelines of the previous seasons, fans might expect that Making a Murderer Season 3 will be released by the end of this year, in December 2024. Alternatively in January 2025.
As the story of Steven Avery continues to evolve, viewers remain hopeful that new episodes will arrive soon to further unravel this compelling legal saga.
