The Fall is a great TV show I watched a few years ago and its story is amazing. Featuring a charming, handsome and clever serial killer on the loose, who targets young women by sneaking into their homes, he then kills them and then poses their bodies in a artistic way. He does this all while living with his two small kids and his loving wife. With that said, I thought I’d honour this crime drama by giving you some of the top 10 series like The Fall you can watch now.
10. The Killing

This new Netflix series like The Fall is highly rated by critics and also has a gripping story following a female lead.
In Seattle, Detective Sarah Linden faces her final day on duty before starting a new life with her son. However, when a patrol car discovers a blood-stained sweater in a field, her plans unravel.
With her replacement, Detective Stephen Holder, by her side, they unearth the body of missing girl Rosie Larsen in a submerged car linked to a mayoral candidate’s campaign. Linden postpones her departure, hoping to resolve the case swiftly.
Make sure you watch The Killing now if you’re into these kinds of crime dramas.
9. Marcella

Marcella originally came out in 2016, but its most recent series came out in 2021. So what’s it about?
Set in modern London, Marcella follows a British Metropolitan Police Officer in a captivating blend of Scandinavian noir. With Rosenfeldt’s distinct style, the series navigates a gripping storyline, exploring the psychology of Detective Marcella Backland as she returns to the Murder Squad after a 12-year hiatus.

8. Manhunt (2019)

Manhunt is a very gripping crime drama which recounts the real-life police investigation around the Levi Bellfield murders and the string of break-ins and horrific sexual offences by Delroy Grant.
Featuring Martin Clunes as DCI Colin Sutton he tracks down and investigates the terrible murders and attempted murders of Levi Belfield.
The second series explores the depraved crimes of Delroy Grant, who raped, burgled and sexually assaulted many old people in South East London from the early 1990s until 2009 when he was caught.
Both series do not shy away from the brutal crimes of their antagonists, and Clunes does a great job of portraying Sutton’s determination and diligence to get both men caught, even at the cost of his marriage.
7. Luther

Many Americans and Europeans will be familiar with Luther, and for good reason, it’s brilliant! Not to lie to you, series 5 slips off, and it does take a bad turn with new characters and poor casting, but the earlier series are really good. So what’s it like?
Starting in 2010, it’s one of the crime dramas from the BBC that sets itself apart from some of the more watered-down ones we’ve had recently like Bodies for example that we covered in this post: Top 8 TV Series Like Dear Child.
https://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/js/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-4474055489327117 (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});Luther follows DCI John Luther, a well-respected, diligent, highly intelligent detective from the Met Police in London whose unsocial but hardworking nature means he’s able to catch the worst of criminals, with most of them being serial killers.
Throughout 5 series Luther and his colleague DS Justin Ripley investigate a different murder in the series, with many of them being cold psychos and disturbed killers. Make sure you give this TV series like The Fall a go.
6. Bodyguard

Starring my current favourite female actor Keeley Hawes, Bodyguard follows the story of a former Royal Marines soldier turned police detective who becomes a bodyguard for the UK Home Secretary after catching the eye of a clever and ambitious candidate.

Being her close ally at all times, his loyalty to the state and his missions starts to shift
5. The Sinner

The Sinner unfolds a gripping narrative akin to a series like The Fall. Centred around a young mother who commits a shocking act of violence without understanding why, the series delves into an inverted crime thriller.
https://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/js/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-4474055489327117 (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});Rather than focusing on the “who” or the “what,” the central mystery revolves around the “why.”
An investigator becomes consumed with uncovering the woman’s hidden motives, leading them on a harrowing journey into her psyche and the violent secrets lurking in her past.
4. Vigil

Starring Game Of Thrones star Rose Leslie and Suranne Jones this series like The Fall is set on HMS Vigil and follows the crew as they deal with the murder of a high-ranking officer. A detective is sent to the sub and is tasked with investigating the murder of HMS Vigil.
With a second series being released as we predicted it’s a great murder mystery to get into and one you can certainly binge. Make sure to give this TV series like The Fall a watch.
3. Sherwood

Sherwood is inspired by the real-life story which took place in a Nottinghamshire mining community called Ashfield, where a pair of tragic murders occurred.
One of these incidents involved the killing of union stalwart Keith Frogson in 2004, who tragically lost his life to an arrow. As it’s the BBC, they change a lot of what happens in the story and race-swap the characters, however, I loved the soundtrack, and the sense of tension between the characters as one of the detectives from the Met Police is sent up to Ashfield where the 1984-85 miners’ strike took place.
His presence there is cause for tension since during the protests by the miners many police from the Mets faction were particularly violent to the miners, beating them and trampling them with horses.

2. Happy Valley

Featured many times on here, Happy Valley follows the story of a middle-aged female police officer called Catherine Cawood. Essentially the story centres around a police Sergent from the Calder Valley in Yorkshire whose daughter is raped 20 years previously by a man called Tommy Lee Royce and hangs herself as a result.
Before Catherine’s daughter dies she gives birth to Tommy’s son, Ryan, whom she raises herself, but in the current story, Tommy Lee Royce finds out he has a son and tries to get in contact with him while in prison through various proxies. One of them being Ryan’s creepy school teacher. Moreover, the story also takes a look at the drug gangs in the area and murders which take place along the way, as in reality Calder Valley is called “Happy Valley” for the drug problem.

(Side note, do not let the stupid Netflix trailers for this show fool you. It is seriously one of the most brutal, violent, depressing and vice-ridden crime dramas I’ve ever seen – and I’ve seen a lot).
1. Broadchurch

The reason that Broadchurhch is top of this list is because it’s a brilliant crime drama and most similar to The Fall. We’ve covered it before in our post: 5 Reasons To Watch Broadchurch – and if you’re wondering about this more, read that post.
Anyway, Broachchurch is a brilliant murder mystery starring David Tennant, Jodie Whittaker, and Olivia Colman.
In a peaceful seaside town, the death of an eleven-year-old boy ignites a storm of secrets. As residents grapple with truths and suspicions, the police race to uncover the killer behind the facade of tranquillity.
It’s seriously one of the best English crime dramas I’ve seen in recent years and with 3 series it’s great.
