Already featured in our Top 10 Teen Romance Movies post and for good reason, it’s a very popular teen romance movie and great drama that came out in 2014.
Directed by Christian Ditter Love, Rosie (2014) is a romantic comedy-drama about childhood best friends Rosie Dunne (Lily Collins) and Alex Stewart (Sam Claflin). Growing up in Dublin, their bond is unbreakable until Alex moves to Boston for college. Rosie, dealing with an unexpected pregnancy, stays behind. Despite the distance, they remain close, navigating various relationships and personal struggles.
As they face missed opportunities and life’s challenges, they question whether they are truly meant to be together.

8. The Theory of Everything


One of the more popular romance movies of 2014 I can remember is The Theory of Everything, starring Eddie Redmayne and Felicity Jones.
In the 1960s, Cambridge University student and aspiring physicist Stephen Hawking (Eddie Redmayne) falls in love with Jane Wilde (Felicity Jones), a fellow student. At 21, Hawking is diagnosed with motor neuron disease. Despite the grim prognosis, he embarks on an ambitious study of time, with Jane supporting him every step of the way.
Together, they overcome immense challenges and make groundbreaking contributions to science and medicine, achieving more than they ever dreamed possible.
It was directed by James Marsh and was very popular when it came out.

7. Begin Again


Directed by John Carney, this romance movie of 2014 follows a couple who are both musicians.
Gretta (Keira Knightley) and her boyfriend and songwriting partner, Dave (Adam Levine), move to New York after Dave secures a major record deal. However, Gretta finds herself alone when Dave succumbs to the allure of his new fame.

Starring one of my favourite actresses, If I Stay was directed by R.J. Cutler and stars Jamie Blackley alongside Chloë Grace Moretz. The story goes as follows:
Mia Hall (Chloë Grace Moretz), a gifted cellist, believed her toughest choice would be deciding between her dream of attending Juilliard and staying with her boyfriend, Adam (Jamie Blackley), a rock singer/guitarist.

An online hookup with no strings attached turns into an unexpected romance when a snowstorm traps two lovers (Miles Teller and Analeigh Tipton) in a New York apartment. As they are forced to spend more time together, their initial encounter deepens into something more meaningful.
This may be a more playful side to the romance genre on a list of romance movies in 2014 but it does have some dramatic moments.

3. That Awkward Moment
