Ah, We all love a bit of horror, right? I know I do, and of course, since it’s the beginning of a new year, I thought I’d cast our minds back to 2003, and go through the top 10 horror movies from 2003, with ratings! From Freddy Vs Jason to The Haunted Mansion, you won’t want to miss these!
10. 28 Days Later

Starring Cillian Murphy this zombie movie called 28 Years Later is one of the better-known horror movies from 2003. We all remember the famous London scene from the opening.
Animal rights activists liberate monkeys from a lab despite warnings of contagion from a scientist. This unleashes a virus across Great Britain, infecting many. Jim wakes from a coma to find a deserted London divided between infected and uninfected. He joins survivors heading to Manchester, seeking refuge with the British military. But they face unknown dangers ahead.
Directed by Danny Boyle, this film follows a group of survivors in a post-apocalyptic world overrun by zombies.
9. Identity

Malcolm Rivers faces death row for murders until a last-minute insanity defence is raised. Meanwhile, a diverse group of strangers, including a limo driver, a former actress, a family, a prostitute, newlyweds, and a police officer, are stranded at a remote motel due to a storm. Murders begin, each victim marked by a motel room key.
The survivors suspect one among them is the killer, possibly targeting them for unknown reasons. Their quest to identify and stop the murderer intertwines with Malcolm’s fate. Watch Identity here.
8. House of 1000 Corpses

Our next horror movie from 2003 is House of 1000 Corpses. On Halloween Eve in 1977, four friends embark on a cross-country trip to document roadside attractions. They encounter Captain Spaulding’s Museum and become intrigued by local legends.

7. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre

We’ve all heard of it, and we’ve all seen parts of it, but which is the best movie from this franchise? Well, in my opinion, the best version of this movie is The Texas Chainsaw Massacre from 2003.
Five youths encounter a traumatized hitchhiker who commits suicide in their van while driving through Texas. Seeking help from locals, they stumble upon a remote homestead inhabited by a deranged, inbred family of psychopaths. They soon realize they are being hunted by Leatherface, a chainsaw-wielding cannibal. They must run for their lives to survive the night of terror.
6. Freddy Vs Jason

If you’re a fan of Nightmare on Elm Street or Friday the 13th, then this terrifying crossover between the two will be one to look out for hardcore fans.
Nearly ten years after Freddy Krueger’s reign of terror, the townspeople try to erase him from memory. Freddy resurrects Jason Voorhees to create chaos and strengthen himself. 5. Open Water

Have you ever watched 47 Meters Down? Well, this movie called Open Water is one to look out for.
While on holiday in the Caribbean, Susan and Daniel go on a scuba diving trip. A miscount on the boat leaves them stranded in the ocean with sharks circling. They cling to hope for rescue as they struggle to stay safe in the open water.
4. Cabin Fever

College friends rent an isolated cabin for a week. They encounter a contaminated man seeking help and accidentally kill him.

3. High Tension (Haute Tension)

Being a criminally underrated film I knew I had to include this horror movie on this list.
Alexia and her friend Marie visit Alexia’s family farm. A sadistic killer breaks in, slaughters Alexia’s family, and kidnaps Alexia. Marie hides and tries to rescue her friend while uncovering the killer’s identity.
2. Beyond Re-Animator

After thirteen years in prison following the events of the previous films, Dr. Herbert West teams up with young doctor Howard Phillips to conduct experiments using a new reanimating serum.
They set up a secret lab in the Arkham State Penitentiary to test their serum on inmates. Escaping the prison proves challenging. Will the doctors survive this concrete pit of death?

1. The Haunted Mansion

For our final horror movie from 2003 we have The Haunted Mansion, which is a great early 2000s movie to end with, but what’s it about?
Realtor Jim Evers and his wife/business partner Sara receive a late-night call from mansion owner Edward Gracey, seeking to sell his property.
The Evers family visits the remote bayou mansion amid a mysterious thunderstorm. They become stranded with Gracey, his enigmatic butler Ramsley, and various residents, visible and invisible. Initially sceptical of ghostly tales, Jim delves into the mansion’s secrets, discovering unexpected connections between Sara and its haunted past.
