Jodie Whittaker is easily one of my favourite actresses of this century, and I think sometimes her reputation and skill in the acting industry go unnoticed or are overshadowed by unfavourable roles in shows like Doctor Who. However this star has been fantastic in many different roles she’s been in, and in this post, we’ll detail the best Jodie Whittaker movies and TV shows to watch in 2024.
Jodie Whittaker rose to fame with her standout performance in Venus (2006), earning nominations for Most Promising Newcomer and Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Comedy or Musical. She received critical praise for her roles in Journeyman (2017) and many more.
In 2017, Whittaker made history as the first woman to play the iconic role of the Doctor in Doctor Who.

Jodie Whittaker Movies
Jodie Whittaker has starred in several movies as well as TV shows and is well-known for both.
She has also acted in a wide variety of genres, making her talent clearly above the bar of your average actor or actress. Here are her top movie performances in my opinion.
5. Venus (2006)

Being the role that most likely kickstarted Whittaker’s career, there’s no doubt that Venus from 2006 made it onto this list. With Whittaker being fairly young and still at the beginning of her acting career, it’s great to see her shine through this role.
Whittaker stars alongside Peter O’Toole in this poignant drama about an ageing actor and his unconventional relationship with a young woman.
4. Attack the Block (2011)

While not my favourite movie, Attack the Block is one of Jodie Whittakers more well-known movie appearances.
In this sci-fi action film, Whittaker plays a nurse caught up in a chaotic battle against alien invaders in a South London housing estate.

3. Adult Life Skills (2016)

With a less dramatic role and more relaxed approach, we have Adult Life Skills which came out in 2016.
Whittaker delivers a heartfelt performance as a woman struggling with adulthood and grief in this touching indie comedy-drama.

2. Journeyman (2017)

The story of this movie starring Jodie Whittaker is very intriguing, essentially, Matty Burton, the middleweight boxing champion, is approaching the end of his career and wants to secure his future with his wife Emma and their baby daughter Mia.
After a tough fight against Andre, The Future’ Bryte Matty collapses due to a delayed reaction to a punch. He wakes up from a coma with memory loss and a changed personality, and now he must reconstruct his life amid the disintegration of his world.
It’s looking at the darker side of her and is certainly one you’ll want to check out, if not for our next insert.

1. Good (2008)

Whittaker leads this gripping thriller series about a nurse who assumes her friend’s identity as a doctor, delving into a dangerous world of deception.

With so many of her roles being involved around soft conflict, drama and romance, it’s great to see her in this role.
The cast was great and Whittaker did a great job in this tense role.

Jodie Whittaker TV Shows
Jodies Whittaker has starred in many different TV shows, and to begin with, we have one of my favourite crime dramas from the late 2010s.
I think this is where her best performance was, as a grieving mother, but some might disagree.
5. Marchlands (2011)

Only starring in a few scenes, Marchlands is top of this list, but it is still one you might want to watch, as the other cast is rather impressive.
The story for this TV show starring Jodie Whittaker goes as follows: A supernatural drama that follows three families residing in the same house during different periods (1968, 1987, and the present day), all connected by the spirit of a young daughter from the 1960s family who died under mysterious circumstances.
We’d recommend you give this more serious Jodie Whittaker TV show a go and rely on the positive ratings the show has received to guide you.

Bonus performance
Ok, I thought I’d include a bonus performance of something I saw her in a few years ago but in which she plays a major role.
That would be in the 2010s series Accused which features a different person each time.
Accused (Episode 4, Liam’s story)

This episode focuses on a Taxi driver called Liam who has a gambling debt and decides to burgle one of his fares driving to their house and steal their belongings in doing so he also steals a memory stick with intimate photos of the woman and her boyfriend which he begins to lust over.
He starts purposely bumping into Tracie, worms his way into her life, and soon starts sleeping with her.
He outs her boyfriend by exposing him to being married to another woman. This leads to a showdown with Liam, and this is of course why he has ended up in the doc.
She guest stars in an episode of this anthology series, portraying a character named Tracie.

1. Broadchurch (2013-2017)

Broad Church has been featured many times on this site and is a fantastic series that centres around the murder of a young boy that takes place on a beach in Dorset, England.
Essentially what happens is an old man with a previous criminal history is accused of being the killer, while the real suspect lies just within the reach of the police, but who is it?
Trust me you’re not going to miss this one if you love dark crime dramas, and to make things better, we’ve got 5 reasons here why to watch Broadchurch, just in case you’re not feeling sure.
