Top 5 Romance Anime

We all love the anime romance genre, but what are those memorable series that you never forget? In this blog I’ll be detailing all the anime I’ve seen which fall under this category, and which I personally loved myself. Some picks in this list may be seen as offensive so we apologize for this. We do hope that most of our readers are over 18 but nevertheless we will proceed. We also have included some anime that is English dubbed and some that aren’t. We hope you will enjoy all of them.

5. Kaichou Wa Maid-Samma! (Dubbed)

Taken from “Maid Samma!” (J.C.Staff)

Kaichou Wa Maid – Samma! is one of my favourites and it was quite memorable too. I loved alot of the characters and I enjoyed the tension between Ayuzawa and Usui that eventually spilled out in the end. The story is pretty simple in my opinion and it’s easy to fall in love with. The story revolves around Ayuzwa and Usui as they begin their journey to falling in love with each other.

Ayuzwa works in a maid cafe in secret and one day Usui spots her working, he proceeds to threaten her and tell her that if she doesn’t want him to tell everyone she has to be his personal maid. We’re going to have some Maid Samma! themed content coming to our YouTube channel, so stay up to date for that.

4. Kimi ni Todoke

Taken from Kimi ni Todoke (Production I.G.)

Kimi ni Todoke had a special type of charm to it which I loved. The music, the way it was drawn, the character voices and lots of other fundamental aspects of this animated series were on point for me. The story is simple and I loved the ending. It’s a very sweet and innocent kind of anime. If you’r looking for any erotic or busty kind of action Kimi ni Todoke is not for you. It centres around quiet, shy and beautiful Sawako Kuronuma and her relationship with Shouta Kazehaya, when they become friends with each other in the earlier episodes, after showing conjoined interest in a stray cat they find.

Sawako is very kind to everyone and treats everyone fairly, this makes her character very admirable and likeable. It’s great because we know for certain now who we are supposed to be sympathising with.

3. Scum’s Wish (Dubbed)

Taken from “Scum’s Wish” (Lerche)

If you’re not into non-conclusive endings then we wouldn’t suggest Scum’s Wish. This is because it doesn’t have a very conclusive ending. The story is a very upsetting and depressing, with no character achieving what they wanted in the end, which was true love. Hanabi Yasuraoka and Mugi Awaya don’t love each other, but the ones they do they cannot have. If you want to read more about Scum’s Wish you can check out our blog regarding a potential season 2 on our blog posts page. Alot of viewers of this anime say that the sex scenes are very realistic and I did find myself agreeing to some degree. They’re quite realistic in the way that the characters discover each other sexually, if you get what I’m trying to say. I must stress that it’s quite erotic to watch, so if you’re easily offended by that type of thing I wouldn’t recommend, but give it a go anyway.

The two have to pretend to love each other so they can be fulfilled. This is because Mugi is in love with his music teacher and Hanabi is in love with her teacher as well. This presents the problem, as both of them cant have who they want. So, they decide to go out and support each other through sex. They use this as their coping mechanism, and this is was makes the story so tragic and engaging. The ending is great, but some people don’t like it. I would to stress that Scum’s Wish did move me emotionally, and I would suggest watching it. Just be prepared.

2. Say I Love You (Dubbed)

Taken from “Say I Love You” (Sentai Filmworks)

Say I Love You is pretty similar to Kimi ni Todoke in the way it’s drawn and shown, although Kimi ni Todoke is more colourful. It presents the same kind of story, theres a nervous shy girl who doesn’t really talk to anyone, popular guy finds her and starts talking to her etc. The thing is with Say I Love You is that it sets up other sub stories with different characters and the story gives characters more depth.

It has a nice sort of ending and the characters are likeable and easy to watch. There is a dub so we would suggest you give it a try. The story isn’t too hard to understand and it teaches the characters a lesson regarding friendship and popularity. It also shows the perspectives of several different characters at the same time, this makes the characters easier to like.

1. Clannad (Dubbed)

Taken from “Clannad”

If you’re new to the anime romance genre, then you have to start somewhere, and we would say that if you haven’t watched anime in this genre then you start with Clannad. Clannad’s story is amazing and we see an epic love story between a whole range of characters. The world that Clannad is located in works on a multiverse concept. This means that there are multiple realities which all run together at the same time. Some people believe in the multiverse theory and there is some evidence to suggest it exists. You can find out more about it here.

Anyway Tomoya Okazaki and Nagisa Furukawa are in love with each other and have been since high school. Their relationship will face challenges along the way, and also there are 25 episodes in the first season, plus another 25 in the second season. This means it’s a good anime to get invested in, and the story wont be over just like that. The ending to Clannad is what makes it so gripping though, and it’s a real sad one. Clannad is the flag ship of romance anime and it’s one you will certainly encounter when you are searching for anime like this.
